Problem: The ignition lock was jammed and would no longer turn.
1) We cut a new key by code. The code is located on the glove box lock. Sometimes a new key solves the problem, but not today. The decision was made to repair the ignition.
2) We remove the plastic covers using two Phillips-head screws.

3) We remove the electrical portion by taking out four screws.

4) We remove the ignition lock cylinder.

5) We disassemble the ignition.

6) The most difficult part is removing the pin. Sometimes it can be pushed out using an L-shaped pick.

More often, however, we have to drill a hole above the pin and then drive the pin out.
7) With the new key inserted, we can see the problem with one of the wafers. We remove it.

8) We put everything back together.
9) If the ignition is locked, a separate procedure is required. This will be described in a separate article.
10) We program the key.
Cost: $500–$800
