đź’Ł I. Debt Trap
⌛ Bonded Future
The future isn’t delayed — it is collateralized.
There is a moment when public debt stops being arithmetic and becomes biography. Governments often claim they protect “future generations,” while simultaneously mortgaging those same generations for political convenience. It’s not villainy — it’s a quiet habit of borrowing from someone who cannot protest yet.
The grotesque that best reveals this system is simple: a Child-Future, pure and untouched, stands next to a massive iron weight labeled “National Debt.” A chain links the child to the weight. The chain continues into the hand of a politician holding a hammer — not striking, merely ready to fix the next nail. The passivity is the point: nothing dramatic needs to happen for the future to be sold.
Politics often treats “tomorrow” as an infinite storage unit for unresolved problems. Borrowing from the unborn becomes the cheapest form of governance. But time is the only currency that cannot be refunded — and the only one politicians do not pay themselves.
Formula:
Future = Debt Ă· Responsibility
Symbols:
– National-Debt Weight — institutionalized heaviness.
– Chain — inherited constraint.
– Child-Future — the untouched timeline, already compromised.
Alt-text:
A small child stands beside a massive iron weight labeled “National Debt.” A chain binds the child’s ankle and leads to a politician holding a hammer. Clean, minimalist space; stark contrast between innocence and oppressive metal.
